Mexico

about

Written decades ago. What do you think it is about?

lyrics

I saw a man just a day ago
Walkin' down the road to Mexico
And on his back he carried all the good things that he'd owned
He'd carefully remove them when he wanted to get stoned.

I saw his face he was a friend of mine
But still he was no friend of mine
And as he passed he looked at me with eyes all black and red
And in his face as pale as sand I saw that he was dead.

I want to leave him far behind
And yet I stay here by his side
I just can't hide.

I saw a man just yesterday
And he had a lot of truth to say
And in his eyes I saw the light of all the days and nights
I followed him, home again into a better life.
